What is a Ragan Webcast?
A Ragan Webcast is an online presentation. The presentation is being presented live, in person, at one of our events or is a produced event featuring recorded material. Our webcasts are streamed over the web at the time of the event. They are not, watch when you want webcasts. They are not archived for viewing later.
Can several people from my company login to the webcast at the same time?
No. The webcast is restricted to only one login, so only one computer can be connected to the webcast at any time. You can have multiple people in a room viewing the webcast, but you will not be able to have multiple people watching from their individual computers.
Is the webcast accessible to both PC and MAC users?
Yes. Since it is broadcast over the web, the individual computers operating system does not come into play. That being said, you will need to have the correct browser plug-ins installed to view the webcast. Below is a list of the most popular browsers and plug-ins needed for each. Most of the plug-ins requires administrative rights to install, so if you do not have those rights you will need to work with your IT department prior to the event to get you up and running.
MAC (Safari or Firefox)—
- Check that QuickTime is updated
- Install Windows Media add-on, http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac-wmv/overview.htm for QuickTime
- Run QuickTime and navigate to File > Open URL
- Enter URL of desired webcast
PC (Internet Explorer)—
The presentation sometimes stops and/or "freezes." What can be done?
Because a webcast is a video stream, its ability to play without interruption, is dependent on your location and the amount of bandwidth you have available to you. When bandwidth drops down, you may experience brief buffering pauses. Outside of increasing your bandwidth, there is nothing you can do but wait for buffering to catch up.
Software recommendations and links

One last technical thing of note: because a webcast is a video stream, its ability to play without interruption is dependent on your location and the amount of bandwidth you have available to you. When bandwidth drops down, you may experience brief buffering pauses. Be prepared for this.
All of the installs will require administrative rights, so if you don't already have them and you are having problems installing the plug-ins, please have your IT department help you.
