Karl Gude is the former Director of Information Graphics at Newsweek magazine and at The Associated Press. After a decade at Newsweek, during which he covered a wide range of stories from the collapse of Enron to the World Trade Center attack, Karl was invited to create two programs at Michigan State University: one on infographics and another on Creativity and Complex Problem- Solving. Karl is a visual storyteller, artist and writer who consults with PR firms and governmental agencies (like the CIA) to help them create understandable infographics. He also writes a column for the Huffington Post, has presented at three TED-x talks and given a pair of talks at South-by-Southwest (SXSW), the technology conference in Austin, Texas, on the Power of Visual Storytelling.
Randy Krum is an infographics and data visualization designer, author of the book, “Cool Infographics: Effective Communication with Data Visualization and Design,” founder and president of the design firm InfoNewt, and instructor of Data Visualization and Infographics Design at Southern Methodist University's Continuing and Professional Education program (CAPE). Randy also runs the popular website Coolinfographics.comwhere he has shared over 1,500 of the world’s best infographics designs. His passion is helping people better understand and communicate their information using data visualizations, visual explanations and infographics. About half of his design work is designing and promoting the online infographics shared in social media, and the other half is designing confidential proprietary data visualizations that companies use internally in presentations for board meetings, sales meetings, employee training, visual explanations, annual reports, consumer insights, and funding pitch presentations.
Laura King-Homan is a communications pro at Omaha Public Power District with nearly 20 years in print journalism, including page design, editing and reporting. She was part of an Omaha World-Herald design staff that won several Society of Newspaper Design awards. Laura has turned her newsgathering skills to content marketing for Omaha Public Power District, which serves 750,000 residents in eastern Nebraska. At OPPD, Laura edits the utility's news site, The Wire. She creates infographics for the site that have successfully told OPPD's story to its customers. Math may intimidate her—seriously, please don't ask her to do algebra—but she thrives on taking a number and explaining what it means through visual storytelling. @lkingh
